What is human papillonavirus (HPV) ?
An Infection that causes warts in various parts of the body, depending on the strain.
Human papillonavirus (HPV) is the most common sexual transmitted infection (STI).
It is spread by having unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex. By mother to baby by pregnancy, labour or nursing.
HPV is highly contagious and is spread through close contact, including sexual contact. It is estimated that most sexually active people will become infected with HPV at some point. HPV infection typically does not cause signs or symptoms. In most cases, HPV infection goes away on its own, without long-term problems.
But it is clear that you can't get oral HPV from casual contact, like kissing on the cheek or sharing a drink with an infected person. You may never know you have HPV. The virus doesn't cause symptoms, and most of the time, your immune system clears the infection from your body within 2 years.
Treatment depends on stages :
There is no cure for the virus and warts may go away on their own. Treatment focouses on removing the warts.
A vaccine that prevents the HPV strains most likely to cause genital warts and servical cancer is recommended for boys and girls.
FEMALES :
In females HPV occurs when the virus enters in your body, usually through a cut, abrasion or small tear in your skin.
The virus is transfered primarily by skin-to-skin contact. Genital HPV infections are contracted through, sexual intercourse, anal sex and other skin-to-skin contact in genital region.
MALES :
Although most men affected by HPV do not show any symptoms, some develop growth or warts these may occur on penis
The symptoms of HPV-related anal cancer include:
- bleeding, discharge, pain, or itching of the anus.
- swelling of the lymph nodes in the anal or groin area.
- changes in bowel habits or the shape of stools.
Genital warts usually appear as a small bump or group of bumps in the genital area around the penis or the anus. These warts might be small or large, raised or flat, or shaped like a cauliflower.
The warts may go away, or stay the same, or grow in size or number. The types of HPV that cause warts do not cause cancer.
